My Role: Researcher, UI/UX designer
Tootle, once a prominent ride-sharing platform in Nepal, was rebranded after being acquired by Zapp, a delivery service app. In December 2022, I joined Zapp as the sole designer to manage this transition. My role was to redesign and reintroduce Tootle into the market with a fresh identity, adding ride-sharing functionality to the app while ensuring a smooth experience for both new and existing users. Over a span of three months, I worked alongside two developers and the marketing team to redesign the app from scratch, implementing a new brand identity and a user-centered design that would appeal to riders and drivers alike.
In December 2022, I joined Zapp as the sole designer with the task of helping the company transition from a delivery service to a ride-sharing platform. The company had recently acquired Tootle, which had been a popular ride-sharing app in Nepal but had been temporarily closed. With this acquisition, Zapp aimed to revive the Tootle brand, leverage its existing market presence, and reintroduce the app with a fresh, user-friendly experience.
I worked alongside two developers and a marketing team to transform the app, keeping in mind the goal of providing an intuitive, efficient, and user-centered ride-sharing solution. The challenge was to integrate the new ride-sharing features, maintain the trust of existing users, and rebrand the app in a way that would attract both former Tootle users and new riders.
When Zapp acquired Tootle, the primary problem was the transition from a delivery app to a ride-sharing service. The original Tootle app, which had been popular in Nepal, had been shut down, and now, Zapp needed to breathe life back into the brand and relaunch the platform with a new look and feel, focusing on ride-sharing.
The transition: The app had to pivot from a delivery service to a ride-sharing platform, introducing features that were completely new to the users, such as ride-booking and driver interfaces.
Rebranding: We had to update the app’s branding, user interface, and overall experience to match the expectations of modern ride-sharing users while maintaining the legacy of Tootle.
We needed a solution that not only worked for new users but also ensured that existing ones, who had used the app for delivery services, could transition smoothly to the new ride-sharing system.
